Today we re-share this nostalgic video about a Christmas present lost and found. When American soldier RC Kneeskern was deployed in WWII, he spent a month in an encampment in rural Pembrokeshire, Wales before being sent to France. After the war, he returned home to marry the love of his life and start a family—but not before losing something meaningful.

Half a century later, Jack Tree, a Welsch metal detective and self-dubbed “interested amateur” digs up that something: a silver ID bracelet six inches below the earth. The inscription: RC Kneeskern. Love Shirley 12-25-43.

In this Monica Rich Kosann original video, we meet Jack Tree and learn how he discovered the bracelet, as well as how the item touchingly makes its way back to its original owner’s descendants in Syracuse, New York. Watch this journey that is equal parts nostalgic and romantic and share in one family’s circle of memories.

It’s that time of year again, when the forecast calls for snow—in some places, lots of it. In this original Monica Rich Kosann video, we celebrate the tender relationship between a husband a wife who collect together.

Watch how Huggy Huggins’s passion for collecting grew into something he and his wife could enjoy building together. The lesson is, like anything else, if you do what you love then it’s that much more fun. And if you can manage to enjoy sharing it with a spouse, sibling, parent, or great friend then it can be even more rewarding (albeit, not always easy). Happy winter!

MONICA RICH KOSANN VIDEOS Watch as a British man with a passion for metal detecting walks us through where he found this gold Victorian locket in a Wales field and how he returned it to a descendant of the original owner who lived in the 19th century.

What if someone showed up on your doorstep with something that belonged to your relative, who lived during the 19th century? That’s exactly what happened to a Wales woman named Jennifer Deakin.

A little over two years ago, her 86-year-old neighbor Ted Owens found a gold Victorian locket while wandering around an old field with his metal detector. Turns out, the old field was part of a property that’s been in her family for centuries. What he discovered wasn’t historically invaluable like the findings of another British man, who recently unearthed $1.6 million worth of ancient gold and silver artifacts with his detector. Nonetheless it was priceless to Mrs. Deakin and her family, including her daughter and granddaughter who will one day inherit this long-lost family heirloom.

Watch as Mr. Owens walks us through where he found this gold Victorian locket and how he returned it to Mrs. Deakin, a descendant of the original owner who lived some 150 years ago.

Would you like to win a locket? To enter your name in our special Mother’s Day giveaway (the prize: a Monica Rich Kosann Sterling Silver Round Hammered Locket, estimated value: $400), sign up for our free e-weekly newsletter before May 9th (the day we announce the lucky winner).
MONICA RICH KOSANN VIDEO What are lovespoons? Here, master craftsman Edwin Williams tells us the love story of these beautifully hand-carved wooden spoons that date back to 16th century Wales.

What are lovespoons? These beautifully hand-carved wooden spoons are part of a popular Welsh tradition dating back to the 16th century. Back then, when men fell in love at first sight, they immediately began carving (for months!) a lovespoon as a sign of courtship to the lady and her family. Over time, he would add hearts or other symbols that made his intentions to marry her known. Call it an olden day Valentine’s gift of sorts!

Today, Welsh couples turn to master craftsmen, like Edwin Williams, to custom design unique, heirloom-worthy spoons that tell their love story. Considered the most talented carver in the region, according to the owner of Lovespoons Gallery in Wales, Williams, along with his wife, has created spoons for Nelson Mandela, Prince Charles, and countless others.

In this Monica Rich Kosann original video, we visit with the couple, who live outside the picturesque seaside town of Mumbles, Wales, to chat about this long-lasting romantic ritual.
