Exhibit: Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950

On May 19th, the Victoria & Albert museum will open it’s newly renovated fashion galleries with an exhibit of incredible ballgowns and evening dresses. ’Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950′ features over sixty gowns for everything from private parties and royal balls to state occasions and opening nights. The exhibit will run from May 19th through January 6th 2013. From a show-stopping Alexander McQueen gown to an understated ‘Elvis Dress,’ here are a few highlights.

Today the spotlight is on the Baltimore Antique shop, The Spare Room. When we came across the shop on 1st Dibs, we were struck by their collection of rare Georgian Era pieces. This era was known for it’s opulence and self-indulgence when it came to fashion – and each of these bold antique pieces are great examples of that extravagance.

Iconic Image: Audrey

We love this iconic image of the beautiful Audrey Hepburn, taken by Bob Willoughby, the first “special” photographer who was assigned to photograph Hollywood stars. His twenty-year collaboration with Hollywoood Studios resulted in an archive of incredible photographs of actors and directors. The contrast of light and dark in this photograph is particularly powerful.
