Nesting When It’s Cold Outside
Projects around the house needn’t wait for spring. In fact, it makes perfect sense to crave the coziness of nesting in the wintertime. Here are a few suggestions for updates that don’t require stepping foot outside—or even spending money.
Rearrange, rearrange, reorder
Since winter’s arrival, I’ve been walking around the house, changing the art work on the walls. I like to take photos out of storage and swap them with the ones in frames, rehang paintings and posters from wall to wall. Sometimes the simple act of swapping provides the sort of complete refresh a room is calling for. For example, there was a wall in my family room that had one solo picture hanging on it. I decided to remove that picture and replace it with a fun collage of six paintings—what a difference!
I’ve spoken before about the importance of creating conversation around the hearth. Re-doing the one’s mantle is another easy, cheap and perfect-for-the-season home improvement. If you have photographs up there, put up a work of art or a mirror or unusual collection of objects, anything different and new!
Nesting can also occur everywhere from your cork board to a grouping of vases. The beauty to rearranging is that it allows you to make positive changes without shopping.
