Iconic Image: The Birth of Venus

This week, instead of a photograph, we’ve chosen Sandro Boticelli’s The Birth of Venus. This is one of the most recognized paintings by Botticelli, and depicts Venus the goddess of love being born out of a seashell as a woman. This mythical painting from the early renaissance was our inspiration for our planet piece, Venus, which represents inner beauty.  The beautiful Venus necklace (below) opens like a delicate compact with rubies, emeralds, and diamonds. Inner beauty is honored with a rose gold mirror inscribed, “Beauty is not in the face, Beauty is a light in the heart.” The clam shell closure to the piece is inspired by the seashell that Botticelli depicts in this iconic painting.
