In my experience, New Years resolutions are much easier to keep when they’re from the heart. This year I’m resolving to organize and make visual sense of the files filled with cards from museum shows and galleries, old postcards, color palettes, et cetera that I’ve accumulated and kept in folders for years by creating a scrapbook.
A scrapbook of your inspirations will enrich your life. Here’s how to do it: Start with a sketchbook, a Moleskine or—my personal favorite—a good-old fashioned composition notebook with a hard cover. Work your way through your stacks of magazines, postcards and articles with a pair of scissors and a glue stick, cutting and pasting according to your personal preference. You can even add in handwritten notes or sketches to accompany the contents. Stop when you’ve run out of material; if you haven’t filled the book yet, leave room to add in the days and months ahead. Now you have a wonderful and portable way of carrying whatever it is you love with you wherever you go in the new year. Happy 2011!

While there are many sites today dedicated to the pursuit of jewelry, fashion and style, here at MRK Style we approach these subjects through a collector’s lens. Through exploring how people relate to Jewelry, Art, Family, Fashion, Food, Film and Travel—essentially life’s various, everyday obsessions—we reflect on how we all live with the things we love.
