One of my favorite things to do is go vintage clothes shopping with my girls. I love walking into a store and seeing things that make me say, ‘Oh wow, I used to have one of those,’ or ‘I remember that!’
Taking a trip down memory lane with my daughters is such a good feeling, even when I get riled up over something like well-worn jeans. I swear if I had kept my high school pair of Levi’s—the ones I had worked really hard to wear in using rocks, sandpaper, even gravel—my daughters would totally get into them.
During a recent vintage shopping trip, I found a glittered sweater vest just like the one my mom had. I couldn’t believe it. Finding stuff like that is very inspirational, which is important for designers or anyone in the creative business. We’re inspired by each other. Interestingly enough, what grabs our attention and how we use it is different for all of us. A button or a ruffle might strike a chord with some people. A sweater vest hit home for me that time. Next time, I’m sure it’ll be something else, like a piece of jewelry, texture, or pattern.
I wish I could visit every great vintage store this country has to offer, but of course, there’s no time. The good news is that I can so easily treasure hunt online now. I’ve always been a fan of eBay, for example, which just gave me this idea to introduce a fun new column called My eBay Today, where I get to vintage shop and share lots of good gets with you.
Starting today, I’m going to dig up some amazing finds—specifically in fashion, jewelry, and accessories—on eBay for you every. Single. Day! My criteria: Classic, elegant, vintage items, ranging from all price points, that never go out of style, just like my collection. This should be super fun!

P.S. Hope you had a chance to help us raise awareness about contributing to Haiti relief funds! We want to tell 100,000+ people how to help. This weekend we donated $1,500 to UNICEF and will give another $1500 this Friday as a thank you to our readers for helping us spread this important message.

While there are many sites today dedicated to the pursuit of fashion and style, here at MRK Style we approach these subjects through a collector’s lens. Through exploring how people relate to Art, Family, Fashion, Food, Film and Travel—essentially life’s various, everyday obsessions—we reflect on how we all live with the things we love.
