We asked her What’s Your Heirloom? Here’s Maryann’s answer:
“My sister recently requested that my Mom, Dad and I attend a local Christmas fair. We gladly joined her early on a Saturday morning and walked through the aisles at a local church. We were delighted to find lots of little treasures. I wandered over to the gently used item area. There I spotted a little cardboard box. Inside, I found a copper Christmas butter cookie press, exactly like the one we used 35 years ago when we were kids. I couldn’t believe the press had the exact same cookie designs.
My mother came over and asked what I was looking at. I didn’t have to say anything as she looked in the box and recognized the Christmas cookie press. She smiled and said ‘let’s buy it and make Christmas cookies.’ We set a date and purchased the ingredients. Everyone was assigned a task; mixing, pressing, decorating. We had so much fun making the cookies, just like when I was a child. I thought what a great heirloom that was brought back into my life when I realized it wasn’t the press that was the heirloom but the love of family and great family memories!”

While there are many sites today dedicated to the pursuit of fashion and style, here at MRK Style we approach these subjects through a collector’s lens. Through exploring how people relate to Art, Family, Fashion, Food, Film and Travel—essentially life’s various, everyday obsessions—we reflect on how we all live with the things we love.
