On Tuesday evening, two of our good friends, designer Josie Natori and actor/director Tony Goldwyn, helped us host an intimate event to celebrate heirlooms. We invited about 20 fashion, beauty, and lifestyle bloggers to join us at the Town & Country-decorated townhouse at Soho Mews, where each guest received a vintage postcard (some a century old!) upon arriving.
Remembering the postcards from my family‘s travels as well as to the great tradition of mailing thoughtful notes to loved ones (read Russ Hardin’s story and you’ll be inspired to pen a friend, I swear), we came up with this fun activity to write yourself a note about your special heirloom. At the end of the evening, we collected all the postcards so we could send them back to our guests the good old-fashioned way: by the U.S. Postal Service.
We were so happy our postcard party was a big hit (see the images and read about our guests’ heirlooms at Show Us Your Story). It was not only a great icebreaker (“So what’s your heirloom?” was the phrase of the evening!), but also it served as a testament to the universality of our mission: To capture, celebrate and share our best memories, heirlooms, and family traditions.
Further proof of that was in the ironic twist that revealed itself later that evening when Josie and Tony each shared a personal story about their own heirlooms. Neither had any idea that the items they both cherish were versions of the same thing. To find out exactly what is that mutual object of their affection, you’ll need to check back in the coming weeks to read their separate stories, which will be featured in our column My Heirloom. Stay tuned. You won’t want to miss what either of them had to say!
xox,
M
P.S. As you plan your holiday parties this season, consider adding this fun twist that will help you reconnect with family and friends. It could be postcards, greeting cards, a timeless sugar cookie recipe or anything special that you can share with loved ones. Maybe you’ve already done something like this in the past? We’d love to hear about it.

While there are many sites today dedicated to the pursuit of fashion and style, here at MRK Style we approach these subjects through a collector’s lens. Through exploring how people relate to Art, Family, Fashion, Food, Film and Travel—essentially life’s various, everyday obsessions—we reflect on how we all live with the things we love.
