To put our FAOF twist on this contest, we thought it would be fun to ask each winner to tell us What’s Your Heirloom? Here’s Joan’s:
“My favorite heirloom is a gold cross necklace my deceased father gave to my mother the year before they were married. It is inscribed on the back: ‘Jack and Eleanor Xmas 1946.’ It was hand-engraved (seems to be a lost art), which makes it especially beautiful. My mother has since given me the necklace.
A couple years ago, I was robbed. They stole all my jewelry. I was heartbroken. But then I found the cross necklace in a pawn shop. I recognized the case and told the salesperson that I was going to call the police to claim it. She didn’t believe me.
Before she could take the necklace out of the case, I told her about the engraving on the back. It was my pendant. The clerk was amazed and said they usually polish off any engraving before they display a newly purchased piece. I was meant to have it back.”

While there are many sites today dedicated to the pursuit of fashion and style, here at MRK Style we approach these subjects through a collector’s lens. Through exploring how people relate to Art, Family, Fashion, Food, Film and Travel—essentially life’s various, everyday obsessions—we reflect on how we all live with the things we love.
